This introductory textbook covers all aspects of catalysis. It also bridges computational methods, industrial applications and green chemistry, with over 700 references. The author, a renowned researcher in catalysis, teaches scientific writing as well as chemistry. This makes him the ideal person to write such a textbook. The effectiveness of his practical approach has been well proven in courses for undergraduates and graduates (in 2007 he was voted "lecturer of the year" by the chemistry students).
Following an introduction to green chemistry and the basics of catalysis, the book covers biocatalysis, homogeneous catalysis and heterogeneous catalysis, as well as computer applications in catalysis research.
Each chapter also features integrated exercises that help students prepare for their exams.
Summary: the best book ever for basic catalysis
Rating: 5
A concise and readable book ideal for all, from tutors and students at once, covering the broad spectrum of basic catalysis chiefly from the view of a blessed speaker and tutor. Prof. Rothenberg describes catalysis in a manner easily understood to a newcomer to the field, in a way that is both clear from the theoretical point of view but also practical and well explained using real life examples and links to articles and DOI's,for the first time in a book.... a blessed idea aiming to help the reader to enjoy the reading. The real strength of the textbook is in the clarity of explanation of catalysis in all aspects - a very multifaceted subject - from a chemical and physical viewpoint. Prof.Rothenberg traverses the field of catalysis and biocatalysis from the fundamentals to industrial processes, illuminating the key concepts and experimental methods on the way.
In conclusion, this is a brilliant and comprehensive account of basic catalysis and biocatalysis that will be of great help for those trying to keep students in the Chemistry arena. As a veteran Chemistry teacher, I can say that it is the only textbook that combines all the catalysis related disciplines in a clear manner.
I would like very much to see this kind of books for General Chemistry courses.
Summary: Catalysis
Rating: 5
This book on catalysis written by Professor Rothenberg is an excellent addition to the chemical literature, and should be a must acquistion for all research libraries. It is expertly and clearly written covering all important aspects of catalytic processes. I highly recommmend it to both students and practitioners in the area. The book contains numerous references and exercises, making it a good textbook for advanced undergraduate as well as graduate courses in chemistry.
