Green Chemistry is an emerging, new field of chemical science. The subject deals with finding new scientific means to drastically increase the energy and material efficiency of chemical manufacturing processes, increase safety associated with chemical products, and find ways to utilize cheaper and renewable feedstocks for chemical production. Such innovations will have both economically competitive advantages and lower environmental impact related to chemical production. This course will discuss cover the principles and applications of green chemistry in synthesizing fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals. The courses will be taught in English.
Topics to be covered:
Introduction to the Principles of Green Chemistry (P. Anastas & J. Warner)
Newer feedstocks for chemical synthesis
Greener solvents for chemical synthesis
New reaction design for green chemistry
Energy efficiency in chemical synthesis
Green reactor design
Green separation methods
