This junior/senior textbook presents fundamental concepts of structure property relations and a description of how these concpets apply to every metallic element except iron.

Part One of the book describes general concepts of crystal structure, microstructure and related factors on the mechanical, thermal, magnetic and electronic properties of nonferrous metals, intermetallic compounds and metal matrix composites.

Part Two discusses all the nonferrous metallic elements from two perspectives: First it explains how the concepts presented in Part One define the properties of a particular metallic element and its alloys. Second is a description of the major engineering uses of each metal. This section features sidebar pieces describing particular physical property oddities, engineering applications and case studies. An Instructor's Manual presenting detailed solutions to all the problems in the book is available from the Wiley editorial department.

Summary: Excellent Metallurgical Reference in Non-Ferrous Metals
Rating: 5

I think this book is unique in its content-no other book has such a comprehensive coverage in the metallurgy of non-ferrous metals. It is well written and has a pickupable easy to read style. Finding information on specific non-ferrous metals is very easy. The figures are also very clear.

Summary: An interesting read
Rating: 5

I really like this book. The information, obviously, is very good, but the selling point is the writing style. This book is written in an easy-to-read style that makes the information even more interesting. The text includes sidebars on various points of interest that are related to the material and come from the author's own backgrounds. Overall, I really like this book and would recommend it for a classroom application or for anybody who is interested in nonferrous metallurgy and just wants to read. Highly enjoyable.

Summary: good reference for metallurgists
Rating: 4

This book appears to be written to serve as a textbook, but its greatest value may be to practicing metallurgical engineers. It's the first book I've seen that gives in-depth narratives on all the nonferrous metals. Throw a dart at the periodic table, and whatever metal your dart hits, this book has a detailed description of its properties, alloys, %26amp; commercial uses. Most metallurgy references short change metals like vanadium, rhenium, or cesium (even the ASM Metals Handbook), but this book gives substantial coverage to every metallic element. 'Well illustrated.
